stunning incompetence

In early April I order two lipsticks from By Terry.

I had no idea when I ordered the lipsticks that they'd be coming from Europe.

After some back and forth with the company, the package finally makes it to the US in early May.

And after that, well, it kinda goes rogue.

The package was sent from the Netherlands; arriving in the US on May 6.

Processed Through Facility
ISC CHICAGO IL (USPS)

Then it decides to sightsee, and comes back to another part of Chicago 10 days later. Seriously, what was it doing in those ten days?

Arrived at USPS Regional Facility
CHICAGO IL INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER

3 days after that my lipsticks arrive in NYC. Finally!

May 19, 2020, 8:56 pm
Arrived at USPS Regional Destination Facility
NEW YORK NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER

But then, after a night out (doing who knows what as everything is closed), they arrive back.

NEW YORK NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Next my lipsticks travel to parts unknown for a couple of days.

May 22, 2020
In Transit to Next Facility

I give up. I write to  By Terry and get a refund.

Now I'm just curious where my lipsticks are heading off to, as I'm pretty sure it's not to me.

And I'm right.

Becoming bored in NYC, my lipsticks take off to Rochester, where parts of that city are now in Phase 1 of opening.

Arrived at USPS Regional Facility
ROCHESTER NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Your item arrived at our USPS facility in ROCHESTER NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER on May 22, 2020 at 5:22 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

Soon after arriving in one part of Rochester, my lipsticks travel to another part of the same wrong city.

May 23, 2020, 5:20 pm
Arrived at USPS Regional Facility
NORTHWEST ROCHESTER NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Your item arrived at our USPS facility in NORTHWEST ROCHESTER NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER on May 23, 2020 at 5:20 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

And then, back to NYC.

May 24, 2020, 10:24 pm
Arrived at USPS Regional Destination Facility
NEW YORK NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER

And for the next few days, sometimes twice a day, I get the same exact new update.

Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be delivered to its final destination. It is currently in transit to the next facility.

Truthfully, I have no idea what the above message even means.

Then I get this.

May 27, 2020, 4:06 pm
Arrived at USPS Regional Facility
ROCHESTER NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Your item arrived at our USPS facility in ROCHESTER NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER on May 27, 2020 at 4:06 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

My package is now back in Rochester.

Okay, this is truly ridiculous. I go on the USPS website and complete a form for my missing package.

Remarkably, someone calls me soon after.

"Looks like the address was completed incorrectly and that's why it keeps bouncing between Rochester and NYC," Ms. Harwood at the local PO tells me.

"So how can we get the package and change the address to the correct one?" I ask.

"Go to our website and complete the information under Package Interception," she tells me.

I do and get a message back that says, "Your package is not eligible for package interception."

I ask Ms. Harwood to have a supervisor call me back. The next day Mr. Lopez calls.

"I don't understand," I begin. "I thought the whole point of paying for a package to be tracked is to be able to find the package if it's lost."

Mr. Lopez ignores my question and concurs with Ms. Harwood. "It must have the wrong address."

Then he adds, "Hey. Wait a minute. Says here you already got a refund on this package."

"Yes, that's true," I tell him.  "But if the package is still in transit than I'd like it."

"Sorry; you can't have it both ways."

And that's it. Case closed.  My twice-daily updates stop. I even get an email from USPS asking me to complete a survey rating their service in resolving my problem. Hah!

Three days later, the doorman tells me I have a package.

I open the box and there are my two lipsticks; arriving two months after I ordered them.

And, by the way, my address is correct.

  1. CLEARLY suspicious item from suspicious sender or suspicious receipt address some how was triggered. Good luck with future

  2. Wow I'm sorry you had to go through that. I just recently got that same message,
"Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be delivered to its final destination. It is currently in transit to the next facility."

I have no idea what this means either. I have a very small computer part floating around somewhere and I was researching that USPS message which is how I ended up on your website. Now seeing what you had gone through with USPS, I'm really nervous for my own package. It's 2 days late so I'm wondering if I should stick it out another day before I content their reps.

  5. I mailed my 2 packages to Rock Stream and Beaver Dam NY from New Castle DE on December 7th. The Beaver Dam package arrived to its destination but the package for Rock Stream is still stuck at this distribution center. There goes Christmas for my family. I should have driven the 5 hours and delivered them myself or mail my packages a year in advance!!!

  6. The Government needs to look into this place!!!! SERIOUSLY! I am noticing ALL the NEGATIVE COMMENTS and totally agree'ing ~ INCOMPETENCE!!! 12/8th My Cat's Medicines were shipped from NJ! Arrived: 12/12 in Rochester....where it's FREAKING BEEN SITTING FOR 10 Days. Literally this 30 minutes from my house/Hilton. I don't want to hear the excuses ...busy because of COVID & the Holiday season. PLAN ahead? Hire more help...I don't know. My CAT NEEDS HER MEDICATION!!! LIFE or DEATH... We have now been OUT for 5 days! No one answers their phones!!!! 10 days ..well tomorrow...will be 11 days for it to arrive in Hilton. ~ RIDICULOUS! and TRULY UNACCEPTABLE Business Practices! Government employee's or not. PISS POOR! 11 days sitting, I could have driven to NJ and picked up faster...for that matter driven to California and picked up faster than USPS shipping 30 minutes from my house! :(

  7. LOL. Experiencing same here. Packages from small town outside Burlington VT arrived in NW Roch NY sorting facility (3 miles from my house) in ONE DAY. Then spent TEN DAYS going back and forth between the two sorting facilities in Roch before they figured which local PO to send it to -- and then only 3 of 4 packages arrived; the other is still circulating uselessly.

    Impeach Postmaster DeJoy.

  8. Same here I ordered a Christmas gift for my granddaughter on Dec. 3rd it shipped on Dec. 8th from Hazleton, PA. The package arrived in Rochester, NY distribution center pn the 11th and the next message said in route to next facility on Dec.15 then nothing until today Dec. 22nd when I get a message that my package had arrived at the USPS Regional Facility Northwest Rochester, NY. Guess I will eventually get the package, but this is ridiculous.

  9. For my package, to go from Buffalo NY to the Northwest Rochester Distribution Center—which Google Maps states is 1.25 hours away—took six days to get there. Tracking states that the package left the distribution center today and is currently in transit. To get to Sacramento, California, I estimate ill see it in February 2021 at the earliest! Pathetic!

  10. I'm still waiting on a package that was supposed to be delivered before Christmas. These jerks wont even answer the phone. I live 30 mins from this stupid place. you'd think getting a package out to a town that is literally a half hour from you would NOT be a problem! And yet the post office was trusted to deliver ballots on time? They cant even get a simple package delivered on time.

  11. they still have my package since the 22nd of December

  12. You're all so entitled. Distribution centers are short staffed and overwhelmed with packages because everyone orders EVERYTHING online now. Get over yourself.
