$325.54. How can I spend thee? Let me count the ways.
I could:
v
Get Alexander a
ticket to see Book of Mormon; he’d
love it, though he’d have to go alone.
v
Walk over to
Pachute, my favorite neighborhood boutique, and see if they have any little
spring dresses, and buy one if they do.
v
Take a flight to
Phoenix Arizona to visit my friend Don who is now living there, after many
years in LA. It's been years since I last saw him.
v
Buy a new duvet
cover for Alexander’s room; I love the ones from both Matteo and Serena & Lily. His current one looks limp.
v
Eschew subways
and busses for a month and start taking Uber.
v
Have dinner at
Eleven Madison with Alexander to celebrate the end of junior year; neither of us has ever been.
v
Maybe buy a
couple of pair of Naots for the summer; they are the most comfortable sandals,
though not the most stylish.
v
Have my hair
blown out once a week for the next two and a half months; I always feel better
when my hair looks good.
v
Replenish my
two-ounce jar of La Mer and have enough left over for a lipstick too.
But alas, I do none of these fun things.
Instead, I go to Apple
carrying my five-year old Time Capsule router and external drive that died this morning. The Apple genius can do
nothing but say I’m sorry with sad,
sympathetic eyes.
And so, I forgo all the joy
that spending $325.54 could have brought, and instead buy a plastic box that will sit unnoticed, underneath my desk, until something goes wrong.
