not the screening I thought

I trek downtown thinking I'm going to a BAFTA screening and a small cocktail party before.

It turns out to be neither.  There is no screening and there is nothing small about the cocktail party.

About 400 people are invited, including organizations other than BAFTA. Marcus Robinson is being honored with a BAFTA Craft Award for his cinematography of The Rebuilding of the World Trade Center. Among tonight’s well-dressed guests are tattooed men with hardhats, the workers who actually rebuilt the towers.

Drinks include free-flowing bottles of Moet. Appetizers are more in line with an upscale Bar Mitzvah.  Giant shrimp.  Smoked salmon. And carved turkey. This is far better than the cheese and crudités I expected.

The views are magnificent.  The entire 68th floor is open, enclosed by floor to ceiling windows on all sides. I wish I'd brought my good camera and didn't have to rely on my iPhone.

I look down and see the two small reflecting pools, each almost an acre in size.  They are the exact footprint where the towers once stood. The enormity of what they represent looms large.  Even at 68 floors above.
