I hang out with Shari
watching RUSH. It's a great way to spend a cold afternoon. Then, my friend Julie comes in from
Connecticut to see a screening with me at night of ANCHORMAN 2. Both films are enjoyable, in
entirely different ways.
I see more movies in the
last quarter of the year than I do in the previous nine months combined. I take my voting privileges with BAFTA
seriously, and make an effort to see all the award-worthy films of the year.
I grew up wanting to be an
actress, but I never pursued it beyond college.
There were too many students in Tuft’s drama department who were far more talented than I was. So being an active member of BAFTA’s screening committee,
and having voting rights, provides me with some tangential relationship to an
industry I’ve always wanted to be part of.
Instead of working in the
film industry, I ended up in television.
Had I to do it over, I probably would have chosen banking. I
graduated business school in the 80’s — a lucrative time to be on Wall Street.
Ah, but then I probably
wouldn’t be getting 40 free pre-release screeners, thus providing 40 good reasons to invite friends over.
I suppose it all works out
in the end. I just wish I had the private
screening room and Dom Perignon to go along with the screeners.
