I feel like I’m back in
college studying for finals.
There are
19 chapters, 692 pages worth of obscure information I need to know. The intuitive stuff I get. It’s the definitions, the number of years for
this or that, which department approves or authorizes different things — that's what I need to learn.
I take an online test and
score 73%. I take another generic test
(not specifically for New York) and score 50%.
One of the questions asks, “How much should one add to the value of
condo A that is identical to condo B except it has an extra
bedroom?” Let’s see. In NYC, it’d probably be about half a
million. The correct answer is
$9,000. In North Dakota, maybe!
So basically that’s been my
week. Though I have had a few pleasant
interruptions:
A
trip to Costco with Zelia. It is the
only food-shopping experience I find enjoyable.
A
screening of The Secret Life of Walter
Mitty; a sweet little story that under utilizes Kristen Wiig.
A
totally entertaining play called Domesticated
at Lincoln Center with (not starring in) Jill and Meredith.
An
unexpected short and pleasant email from my friend who deserted me in June and
whom I still miss.
A surprise gift of a gorgeous pair of black leather booties.
It’s Saturday night in New
York City, arguably the greatest city in the world. I’m sure there are better ways to spend it than doing what I'm doing: studying real estate law.
