what I like about visiting the cape

Weather today is iffy.  Mostly cloudy, very humid, sudden and brief bursts of sunshine.

I start the day at the dentist for a cleaning, and end with dinner at Crabapple’s with my mother.  In between I stroll Main Street, run some errands, and miraculously win two straight games of gin.

While New York, has everything, there are some things I don’t get there but I do get here; here are just a few:
  • Driving my mom’s car
  • The beautiful and private Wild Harbor Beach
  • Hearing the birds in the morning
  • Cheap lobster rolls (relatively speaking)
  • Fried clams (once per summer is about my limit)
  • Maxwell’s (my favorite small clothing store; the owner greets me with a kiss when I come in today)
  • Central air-conditioning (vs. my loud window unit that is never icy cold)
  • Washing machine and dryer
  • Ironing board that's always set up and ready to use
  • Not spending money every time I walk out the door
  • Sandwiches at Dean's
  • Ellie the clumsy cat (who follows my mom and I from room to room, greets us at the door when we come in, and loves sitting on our laps)
  • Lying on a raft on a hot cloudless day
  • Playing gin
  • Main Street Falmouth
  • Reading a good book with the ocean at my feet

And of course, most importantly, just hanging with my mom.
