the day after

As much as I love Thanksgiving, I think I love the day after even more.

Everyone is relaxed.  The big day is over.  And the family is still together, physically that is.

I get up late, and already the table is set, and Jean and my mom are busy preparing breakfast.  Val and her family are staying at a nearby hotel, and will be arriving around 10:30.

I am the least comfortable in the kitchen.  Valerie and Jeannie are pros. As soon as Val arrives, she jumps right in to help with the eggs.

We split up for the afternoon.  My mom and I stay home, where she relaxes and I re-organize all my J. Hilburn fabrics by price rather than design (thank-you Adam).  Sally and Alexander go to the library.  The rest of the group takes off for the movies.  And Ellie the cat is temporarily allowed entrance into the living room.

But soon enough it's dinner time, and Jean has brought her amazing lasagna and Caesar salad.  I would love the recipe but Jean loses me as soon as she mentions that the sauce is comprised of three different types of beef. This is far too complicated for my culinary skill level.

After dinner we celebrate one recent and two upcoming birthdays.

And then laugh about something.  As we always do.

Yup; it's Thanksgiving.  And I have a lot to be grateful for.
