Alexander
and I meet Jean early to drive up to the Cape to help my mother.
We
arrive and everything is done. My mom looks beautiful, and is all made-up, dressed, and ready by 10:30. Guests will be coming in four hours.
The table
is all set. The
turkey is in the oven. The sides are
all prepared. The appetizers are ready
to be heated, cut or arranged. Even
Ellie the cat has been told that she will soon be exiled to my mother’s
bedroom. Michael is allergic to cats and
Valerie has no interest in “seeing that thing.”
By
2:30 everyone has arrived. There are 11
of us. Jason and Amanda are going to
Amanda’s parents this year.

Me with Alexander |
The food is plentiful and delicious. The conversation is at times hilarious and at other times serious. I would guess there aren't too many Thanksgiving dinner conversations where topics range from transexuals to government leadership to the strategy for accepting or rejecting Facebook friends.
After the women have prepared and served dinner, and everyone has enjoyed it, the women remain in the kitchen to clean up.
As per family tradition, the men have other plans.
