a weekend without plans

Saturday is bleak and rainy all day. Sunday is the marathon so I can’t cross First Avenue until late afternoon.

It’s the perfect excuse to stay in and catch up.

v I organize all my sweaters, moving the lighter weight ones to higher shelves in my closet.  Along the way, I use my favorite sweater tool.  It’s a small electric fabric shaver by Evercare.

v This leads to steaming. My personal handheld Jiffy steamer can replace ironing 90% of the time. I use it often; I hate ironing.

v I finally watch Gatekeepers. I recorded it last August and it’s been sitting on my DVR since.  It’s an eye-opening documentary about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, told from the perspective of 6 ex-heads of Israel’s  secret service.  It’s less hopeful than not, but still fascinating.

v I watch 4 episodes (not exactly binging, but close) of How To Get Away With Murder, the new ABC legal-thriller starring Viola Davis who is, as usual, outstanding.

v I simultaneously catch up on month-old issues of People, Entertainment Weekly, and New York Magazine.  I am now up-to-date on all the important news stories.  I particularly love the one about the 53-year-old guy who disappeared without a trace for six days.  He left a Broncos game at half time, walked (and hitchhiked) 110 miles south to Pueblo Colorado, then explained his behavior simply by saying, he had had his fill of football and was simply looking for a warmer place. This kind of story is so much better than those about ISIS beheadings, school shootings or the Ebola panic.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to disappear, but I’d have to take Alexander with me, and I’m sure he wouldn’t want to go.
