I am trying
desperately hard not to spend money, so I rarely go out randomly.
By staying
home today, I save about $35 on my cable bill.
This month’s bill is $30 more than last month’s bill, and I’ve changed
nothing. So I call Time Warner Cable and
learn that some promotions I had just expired.
I threaten to leave and end up with some new promotions totaling about
$35. And, I drop Showtime, at least
until Homeland returns this fall.
Also by
staying home, I am here when the phone rings and it is the Census Bureau asking
if I am interested in a part-time/temporary/low-paying position beginning in
April. I enthusiastically answer
yes. I give them four references, per
their request. I gave fewer references
when I applied for (and got) a Senior VP position at a major media company a
few years ago.
I go out only
to buy some groceries, and then come home and notice how dry the bottoms of my
feet are. I find two items I bought a few years ago:
Denco’s Professional Foot Smoother and something strangely
called, Zim’s Crack Crème (really, who is the marketing guru who named a product crack creme?).
So while I am
watching Brian Williams talk about President Obama’s state of the union address
last night, I smooth the bottom of my feet. They now look soft and beautiful.
So in case you
are wondering, this is why I haven’t been writing as much. Not much going on.
