A few weeks ago I make the
mistake of going to Saks during their 25% off Friends and Family event. While there, I find myself looking, once
again, at the McQueen skull scarves. I
have coveted one for a long time. After
contemplating for about 30 minutes, I give in and buy one — a beautiful light
blue silk scarf with black skulls.
I leave the first floor, go
up to the second, and bump into Valerie.
She is not supportive of my purchase.
“You should buy classic. Don’t spend
your money on something like that.”
I don’t listen but my
purchase keeps nagging at me. I even ask
my son what he thinks — not that he has any interest or strong opinions on what
I wear. But even he is not enthused
seeing me in skulls.
I leave the scarf sitting in
the Saks shopping bag for a couple of weeks.
Whenever I think of wearing it, I opt not to. I’m not convinced I should keep it. I turn to
the internet for guidance.
I Google “celebrities in McQueen scarves” and many images pop up. The two Olsen
twins. Nicole Richie. Jay-Z.
Lindsay Lohan. Madonna. Russell Brand. That should be answer enough, but then I see Kim, a pillar of good taste:
Before meeting Corinne for a
screening of Nebraska, I stop off at
Saks and return the scarf, confident now in my decision.
