baby it's cold outside

It''s the coldest night since 1994.  And the day isn't much better.

I dress in shearling.  A hat, long coat, mittens, and waterproof boots that fail me.  It's sunny, but it doesn't matter.  The cold cuts through all my layers.

Buses are slow.  Three of us are at the bus stop.  The first one that passes states its status:  Out of Service. Brrrrrrr.  Finally, we see a bus coming, but it passes us as well.  WTF?    The driver points ahead, signaling  the bus stop has changed.  There is construction on First Avenue, but how are we to know the stop has moved a block north?  There are no signs.  My fellow bus-waiters and I run to the now stopped bus.  It is difficult to run with the street caked with snow, but we manage.  Just as we approach the bus, the driver leaves the stop.  I'm sure he saw us.  It’s as if he waited until we were close and then pulled away.  Such power.  Such a jerk.  I consider abandoning my errands and going home, but don't.

Finally, another bus comes and I take it to Costco. I return the Chobani yogurt that tastes sour, and some frozen grilled Tyson chicken breasts after finding an unopened package of the same thing in my freezer.  I next pick up some lobster salad at Sables, using a Groupon.  I stop at Agata and then come home.

I had planned to take some wintry pictures of Central Park.  Maybe tomorrow.  Today is just too cold, even for me.

I spend the rest of the day in, with Alexander.  Before he goes out, we eat dinner and watch some Law & Order.  He must be glad he’s here in balmy New York City and not at school.
