Tomorrow, Alexander is
taking a six a.m. bus back to school.
While he was home, we didn’t
do a lot that was on my list, but we did:
Overstuff ourselves at Burger Bistro, arguably the
best burger in NYC.
Watch the entire, underwhelming third season of Homeland.
Catch up on this season’s episodes of Law & Order and Modern Family.
Watch a couple of movies together, both foreign.
Share ideas on a screenplay Alexander is writing.
Talk, about all sorts of things.
Watch the football playoffs.
Make it to one museum exhibit.
Drive up and back to Massachusetts to attend my
uncle’s funeral.
Eat too many fattening meals.
Argue little and laugh much.
While I watch the Broncos
out-perform the Patriots, Alexander sits down and makes his own list.
While home, my mom tells me
to:
Do the laundry.
Clean the dishes.
Bring the trash downstairs.
Read her blog.
Apply for summer jobs.
Clean the bathroom.
Clear the table.
Call the Bluetooth Company to set up something for
her phone; then, when her phone doesn’t work she tells me to call them
back to fix her mistake.
Be home before 2:00 a.m. whenever I go out.
Not listen to headphones on the street.
Call when I get to my friend’s house who lives five blocks away.
Take a cab when I'm coming home at 10:00 p.m. because it’s too dangerous to walk on the Upper East Side at that hour.
Not drink in our apartment; I'm 21, but my mom doesn't want to be responsible if I drink too much and die.
Not tell her about my latest screenplay ideas.
Watch a foreign British movie with no subtitles whose
characters can’t speak English despite being English.
Turn down my music.
Turn off a show that I am watching so she can read her book.
Wake up before 10:00 a.m. or else.
Stop doing whatever I'm doing so I can show her how to use the pause button on her DVD remote; despite 2.5 years of her living without me at home.
Alexander's list is unedited and fictitious (in my opinion). I will miss him.
