arctic grip

The only real news is the weather.

It is below freezing somewhere in every state (including Hawaii) today.

Here in New York City a new record is set for this date.

It hasn't been this cold in this city since 1896.

The New York Times prints a story headlined with:

Record Cold and Biting Winds Punish City

The temperature has dropped from 50 degrees yesterday to 3 today.

It’s colder here than in some parts of Siberia.

In Chicago, it’s even colder.

There, the Polar Bears have been taken inside.

Even Atlanta is freezing.

I hear a local reporter say that being outside is colder than walking around in a freezer.  Someone else comments on her frozen tears. Interesting imagery.

Still, I have errands to run, things to do.  I bundle up.  The doorman warns me that it’s cold outside.  Yeah, I know.  I like this weather.  It feels good. At first.

I walk one block and my face starts to hurt.   It’s the kind of cold that goes right through you.  Like sitting on a chair lift with winds whipping across your face.  But at least I’m walking and my feet are toasty.  Thank you Uggs.

3 degrees is extreme, but I'd rather this temperature than 100 degrees any day.
