like me

Today I walk 18,021 steps according to my Fitbit. That's 7.5 miles (though I think it should read 9).

I worked hard.

Running around the store. Opening and closing registers. Lugging clothes around. Putting them back on the floor where they belong. Working with customers. Helping them with whatever they request.

And for all my efforts?  I netted $290 in sales. That translates to $17.40 before taxes —$2.04/hour. I honestly don't understand why there aren't labor laws against this.

Yesterday was better. I sold more. And, I met Beverly.

Years ago I bought a dress from her at Bergdorf's (she told me; I didn't remember).

We started talking and I apparently told her about my blog, even sending her the link

Yesterday she approached me at work. Told me her name. Reminded me of my long-ago purchase, and informed me that she's been reading my blog ever since. Even hired the rug people I recently wrote about.

I was both stunned and flattered.

We talked awhile about retail and life. I hope she's reading this today, but I have no way of knowing.

So here's a request.

If you do read my blog, and want to "like" it on FaceBook, or even comment, please do. It's my only way of knowing whose reading.

I really would like to know.
