hello world

So here's me in brief:

I live in New York City, but am originally from Boston.  I moved here in 1984 and loved it from the second I got off the plane.

My world is made a little bit better everyday by my now 19-year old son.  I am a single mom, having never married my son’s father.

I have a sister who lives here in New York; she’s two years younger than I am.  My other sister, five and a half years younger, lives in the Boston area.  My parents live on Cape Cod.

I am a marketer by trade, am very well credentialed, but have not had a steady income in too many years.  Other than that, life is good.

I have many close girlfriends, and no serious boyfriend.  Actually, I don’t even have a non-serious boyfriend. My interests are theater, movies, photography, fashion, anything-Apple, and writing.

Oh, and I’m 61, though that’s hard for me to say, as I think of myself as so much younger.

Growing up I always kept a diary.  It was filled with things like, “Today I counted 18 station wagons on my way to grandma’s; Valerie (my sister) counted 21.”  My entries lacked drama.

As I got older, I kept details on a wall calendar.  These entries were more interesting, but briefer.  I might write something cryptic like, “Tripping with Bob.”  Even today, I can remember the details of that night.  I can even remember the rust-colored V-neck sweater that Bob was wearing.  And that was over 40 years ago.  But had my mother seen my wall calendar, she’d have just thought that Bob and I had gone on a little vacation.

In 2009, I started blogging with one of my closest friends.  She and I were on a mission to lose weight and decided to write about it in a blog called twofriendsandadiet.blogspot.com.  We ended up having followers from all over the world; I lost 40 pounds; my friend lost even more.

So here I am again.  Writing theme-less this time.  The funny thing about blogging is that it’s public, so I won’t write about issues that invade someone else’s privacy, regardless of its impact on me. There’s enough small stuff that affects us all.  It’s amazing how much drama and humor there is in the everyday.  That’s what I hope to write about.

Enjoy, and please keep in touch.  I really care what you think, and I like knowing my writing has make a connection, whatever that connection may be.  Tell me; I do want to know.
