movie and dinner

Cold, but sunny.  A gorgeous late-winter, early-spring day.  I meet Jill in Union Square to see the new Robert Redford movie, The Company You Keep.  It holds our interest, but not by much.  We miss the Robert Redford from Butch Cassidy, and I think Running on Empty is a much better film on the same subject. Fifteen years later, and I can still cry thinking of the scene where Judd Hirsch, living underground, lets his son (River Phoenix) go, knowing he will likely never see him again.

Usually when Jill and I meet it’s either dinner or a movie, but tonight we squeeze in both.  After the movie we grab a quick bite at Cosi, across the street from the theater.  I am not sure I like seeing the calorie count on food options when I am hungry.  Knowing what I'm eating compels me into healthier choices, but those choices are ones I typically desire less.  Sometimes I'd rather not know.

As always with Jill, whether it’s the fifteen minutes before the movie starts, or over sandwiches at Cosi, our conversations bounce between trivial topics and those that hover closest to our hearts.  She is far more entertaining and engaging than watching Robert Redford skirt the law.
