About five years ago my mother
bought me a subscription to Consumer
Reports. I wonder if it’s a sign of
age that I’ve renewed it every year since?
Recently I was reading that
Costco’s Pharmacy sells generic prescription drugs at a significant discount. So I thought I’d check it out.
Today I pick up a
three-month supply of pills for a prescription I’ve been on for a few years. I have been paying $150 for a three-month
supply through my insurance. Today I pay
$14.48 without insurance. That’s more
than a 90% discount.
I assume that Costco buys in
bulk, pays less for their drugs, AND then sells the drugs at a loss in order to
increase in-store traffic.
How else to explain it? Unless I'm buying a placebo pretending to be the real thing! Gosh, I hope not.
