rita turns 90

Rita’s birthday is today.  Rita is Valerie’s mother-in-law, Abbey and Jill's mother.  She is also one of the most loved and adored people I have ever met.

She is vibrant.  Has a youthful outlook, always telling us about the most cutting edge movies.  Plays golf three times a week.  Supports her children and grandchildren at every event, sports game, or celebration, regardless of geography.  Last year she flew in from Florida for someone’s birthday, and then flew home the same day when it was cancelled due to weather and it was too late to reach her.  She is kind and patient and exudes class and sophistication.  Today, 50 people come together to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Jill and Valerie have thought of every detail, and execute it all to perfection.

The room is beautiful, along with the view.  Even the rain holds off until all the guests leave.

The flowers are magnificent.  One of these arrangements now sits on my dining table.

The food is plentiful and sumptuous.  This is just some of what we eat.

a trio of three soups (pea, squash and tomato)
crab and avocado salad

medley of desserts
And the guest of honor is stunning at 90, along with my mom, who is also stunning at almost 84.

I am the photographer.  I must look official.  One guest, looking for her table, taps me on the shoulder and asks, "Can you please direct me to table number four?"

It is great, too, that my mom is able to come.

Abbey surprises Rita with his attendance.   He fits right in with the all-female crowd.

Rita is the youngest 90 year old I've ever met.  I am looking forward to her 100th.
