I could probably go another
week before having my hair colored; it’s only been three and a half weeks. But
I have an important event this week and want to be gray-free.
I call my usual colorist and
she is on vacation. Now what?
I go on Yelp and look for
great reviews of colorists in my neighborhood.
I find one. Lyo at Tokuyama Salon. I call to make an appointment and learn that
because I’m a first-time customer I’ll get 30% off. It’ll cost $48. Wow! I
normally pay a lot more than that.
I find myself available
before my 2pm appointment and call to see if Lyo is free earlier. We decide on 1:15. I arrive on time. The receptionist is there. A couple of other people are there. Some clients are there. Ylo is not there.
The receptionist at first appears
to speak no English. But that’s because
she doesn’t want to deal with my growing impatience. All I‘m told is that Lyo will be here
soon. But really, they have no
idea. Lyo normally comes in at 2, and
though I’m not told this, I think no one has told Lyo to come in earlier.
Now I’m asking for my roots
to be colored for free. Again, the receptionist
smiles and nods as if she doesn’t comprehend.
Around two, Lyo walks in. She is
stylish, sweet, and oh so apologetic.
She offers to color my hair for $20 and I feel guilty. I say, “How about instead, I get 30% off when
I come next time too?” Everyone seems happy with this solution. I of course don't even know if there will be a next time.
Lyo colors my hair a little
darker, and I love the result. I decide
this is closer to my natural color, and the one I like best on me. I take a few selfies (which are clearly for
anyone under 30 who still looks good at any angle):
I will definitely be using by second 30% off.
