A few weeks ago, I happened
to look under my bed (something I never do).
It was then that I noticed the fabric on the bottom of my box spring
appeared to be sagging. This shouldn’t
happen with the expensive Shiffman mattress and box spring I bought four years
ago. I call Bloomingdales. They agree.
I make an appointment for someone to come and fix it.
A very nice man arrives
today, puts on his little booties and enters my apartment. The mattress is heavy but he is strong. He lifts the mattress and props it against my
wall. Next he lifts the box spring. The he calls me, “Ma’am, can you come here
for a minute, please?” Now I’m thinking,
oh no, he’s found a bigger problem. I
fear a nest of bedbugs swarming under my box spring. Thankfully I’m wrong, but bedbugs do play a
role.
A few years ago when I
thought I may have bedbugs (I didn’t), I bought one of those bedbug covers that
encases the entire box spring. It was
that cover that was sagging.
I am embarrassed and
apologetic. The nice man simply says,
“That’s fine. I needed an easy
call. My last call was a nightmare.” As I said, he is a very nice man.
