sweet dreams

Around 8:15 I hear the revving of trucks, lots of trucks, right outside my window.  I peek out and see a parade of vehicles with blinking lights and those annoying back-up beeps.  Men are standing around with orange vests and directional cones. Dirt is being tossed from one vehicle to another.
This is the scene.

The city has decided to repave my block of 79th Street. I ask how long this will take.  “Well, we have to pave curb-to-curb.  Should prob'ly take all night,"  is the response I get but don't want to hear.  “Hey, it’s the city; we don’t make the rules.”
Ah, the sounds of the city to lull me to sleep.
