message to my readers

As a teen-ager, I spent hours on my princess phone.

I was part of a close clique of about eight girls. Here are a couple of them in Junior High;  both are still in my life.  I am lucky to have many long friendships.

Back in high school,  my sisters and I had a phone line separate from my parents.  That, and TV, were our only distractions from homework.  My parents didn't limit our phone calls. That was a good thing as my girlfriends and I  had so much to talk about, even after a full day of school together.  We would talk for hours, daily.  Most of our talk was typical teen stuff— who was seeing whom, who was slighted by whom, who was doing what with whom, who wasn’t doing what with whom, blah blah blah.

Well, here I am in my 60’s, and still, a lot of my conversations are about the same small stuff.
Oh sure, occasionally there will be some newsworthy event my friends and I will discuss.  Like the lack of strong mayoral candidates in the recent NY primary.  Or some ridiculous news story.  Like Dennis Rodman buddying up with Kim Jong Un.  Or maybe it’s something more personal.  A fight with a mutual friend.  A callous brother.  Or even an argument with Bloomingdales.

It doesn’t matter.  It’s just comforting to know I have people to call, just to talk, even when I have nothing to say.

That’s also how I feel about this blog.  It’s nice to know you read my posts, even when, like today, I have nothing to write about.

So really, I just want to say thank-you.
