battery drain

I am lying in bed last night playing WWF on my iphone.

I get an update notification for the new OS7.  It’s free.  I download it, no problem.

It takes a few minutes and soon I have a brand-new looking 4S phone.  All the little icons are different.  The background is different.  The Apple programs are different.  The design is cleaner.  Lighter. Fresher.

This morning I leave the house at 8am with a fully-charged phone.  I get to the real estate class (number 3, 17 left) and check my phone.  My battery level is at 63%  and I haven’t done anything.  By the time the class ends, at 11:45, I have about 4% of my battery life left.

Wow.  This sucks.  Nice new software that keeps my phone alive for a millisecond

I call Apple.  They suggest closing all my open programs.  Turning off the w-fi.  And lowering the brightness. “Charge it to 100% and then let the battery run out.  See if it lasts longer.”

I fully charge my phone. Go to book club.  Have a spirited conversation with seven smart, interesting women.  We discuss the book for less than five minutes, but the stories everyone has to tell are far more interesting than the contrived and depressing story in Love Anthony.  Get home around eleven.  Three and a half hours. Battery level (having not used it once):  49%.

Now what do I do?  Carry around a back-up battery?  Never leave home for more than a couple of hours?  Stop using my phone except for emergencies?

My next stop:  the Genius Bar.  I doubt Steve would have let this happen.
