a snowy ride to a sheet sale

Most normal people, on a day like today, would not venture out.   But M and I choose instead to drive 50 miles south to Fall River to the annual sheet and towel sale at Matouk.

A few years ago I slept on Matouk sheets, and now nothing else is nearly as satisfying. So once a year, M and I drive to Fall River to go to the Matouk factory.  In February only,  sheets and towels that are normally 20%  off are marked down another 20%.

 It is a beautiful, though treacherous, ride. 

We find the one room store in an unadorned industrial strip of businesses.

M and I  are the store's only customers, Even so, the two sales people there seem disappointed to now have to help anyone. There are signs throughout the room that say 20% off with a list of prices.  "Look at these, " M says, referring to some fluffy white towels. "Those aren't discounted an additional 20%," one of the sales associates says.  "Why not?" we ask.  "Only the purple ones of those particular towels have the additional discount."  We learn that some of the more deeply discounted prices apply only to unpopular colors like wine and turquoise, and not to the ivories and whites. Even so, the trip is worth it.

We find a pack of three beautiful ivory hand towels for $7. Gorgeous shams for $14. Bath mats for $7.  And all  sheets are 20% off and another 20% off, making them certainly worth buying.

Before leaving, M asks. "Do you have a ladies room here?"  One of the unhelpful sales associates responds, "Yes, " adding nothing more until probed. 

We make it back safely to M's storybook house.
