the quiet car

I take the train back to Boston.  The quiet car is a big reason for my preference over the bus.

An hour into the ride, an 80ish woman makes a call.  Within seconds, three people (none of them me) jump up to remind her she's on the quiet car.  Poor thing.  She looks like she fears being lynched and immediately hangs up.

Outside New Haven Shari calls me.   I whisper to her that I can't talk and before I can explain why the woman behind me says, "Excuse me....,"  She doesn't have to add more.

After a relaxing and effortless 4-hour ride, I am back in Penn Station where I find all the humans I haven't been missing.
