a nothing day

I try to write every day, but some days, well, there just seems to be nothing much to write about.

Today, for instance.

I go out to get a manicure. Limo-Scene first coat, Dior’s Nail Glow second coat.  It’s a clean look. The nail place is pretty empty.  Maybe three people, myself, and a woman having a loud conversation on her cell, in a language I don’t recognize.  How can she possibly not know she is imposing on everyone else?

I recently read of a study that confirms people having conversations on their cells are more distracting to others than people having live conversations.  The brain tries to fill in what cannot be heard.  According to a study done at Cornell,

Overhearing people chatting on cell phones is not only annoying; it is so distracting that it compromises cognitive performance…Hearing half a conversation is distracting because we are unable to predict the succession of speech. It requires more attention," said first author Emberson. "

Still, I leave without saying a word.  My son would be proud.

Next, in my uneventful day, is a trip to Agata to buy salad stuff.  I decide I’ve been eating too much lately.  I wear my new black Tieks.  While cushioned, they are not cushioned enough for sidewalks.  They are fine for a few blocks, but not for a day of walking.  I still love them, but they are not going to be the shoes I had hoped they would be —I don’t think those shoes exist.

I play some WWF, read some of The Lost Wife, and then have an early dinner of salad (greens, avocado, beets, tomato, and corn).

I meet Corinne to see the new Sarah Polley documentary, Stories We Tell.  It’s an interesting, well-done movie that captivates neither of us.  More interesting is the older woman in front of us who loudly threatens to get the manager because the person next to her is slow in turning off her cell. This is after her husband yells, "Just turn that damn thing off."

I get home around 10, and make Alexander the salad I had for dinner.  He is lean and fit and could eat ten big meals a day, without gaining an ounce.  Together we watch a DVR’ed Modern Family

So today I spend time with many friends remotely, see a movie with another live, hang out with my son, and don’t overeat.  Really not bad for a nothing day.
