Alexander’s phone broke
recently. He has insurance but no Apple store nearby. Classes have ended and finals are this week
and next. He’s decided to wait until
he’s back in NYC to get his phone replaced.
This leaves the problem (for me, anyway) of how to reach him.
There’s Google Voice, which
is a perfect one-sided communication; Alexander calls me when he wants, but I
can’t call him.
So, after much begging and
pleading on my part, Alexander reluctantly agrees to let me be his Facebook
friend. But just until he comes home, and there are of course restrictions:
- I cannot make any comments on any of his Facebook photos.
- I cannot tag Alexander in any of my photos.
- And, I am not allowed to post anything. Even something as innocuous as, “You
should see XYZ movie; I think you’d like it.” This I know because I did that and got this response: “Hey,
please don’t post on my wall either.”
There is a severe penalty
for breaking any of my son’s rules. He would de-friend me. And that I would not want to risk.
Addendum:
I just got this Facebook message from Alexander:
read your blog post...the penalty is that i will "block" you which is way worse than be defriended, i already plan on defriending you when i get home
I don't even know what the difference is, but I plan not to chance it. It doesn't sound nice.
