I live on the second floor. My building was built in the 60’s and uses an ancient boiler to heat the apartments. Several years ago I had the building remove my radiators. Even with them gone, my apartment is too hot most of the time.
Heat rises
and I am unfortunately situated. And
forget opening my windows. I face a busy
crosstown street. My bedroom air
conditioner runs all year.
But May is
a great month. The boiler has been shut
down in anticipation of warm weather, though often the weather doesn’t
comply. This morning, for example, it’s
43 degrees outside. My bedroom is a
perfect 71 (I have a thermometer). This
is when I sleep best. (If only I could
open my windows and hear birds and the ocean, not taxis and trucks…that would
make it near-perfect).
I now have all the
ingredients for a great night’s sleep:

All I’m missing is a clear
mind. As soon as I get a boyfriend, find
a high-paying job (this can be eliminated if found boyfriend is rich
and wants to support me forever), Alexander graduates and finds his dream job,
and I start getting younger, I’ll be able to sleep really really well. May is a
good month for sleeping. So for now
anyway, I’m happy with one really.
You have the neatest apartment in NYC!!!
